In the wake of disaster, hundreds of zealous New Yorkers sacrificed their time and energy to their fellow neighbors whose homes had been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in the fall of 2012. In addition to the local volunteers, several people used their vacation time to travel from around the country to help. Water submerged basements and mold infested living rooms were soon filled with eager servants in white jumpsuits willing to assist however they could. The work was taxing and strenuous and the cloudy air wreaked of Borax as they used brooms to remove the creeping black mold on the walls, and sifted through memories and personal belongings.
